Christmas Arrives a Week Early at Disneyland – Minus Santa's Supporting Programme

Disney has pulled the start of the Disneyland Resort holiday season forward by a week, to November 13. At the same time an entire entertainment offering has been dropped, Santa is moving house – and the castle's snowy turrets are already on the road to Anaheim.

The 2026 holiday season at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim begins earlier than planned. Rather than November 20, it now starts on Friday, November 13, 2026, running as scheduled through January 6, 2027.

The manner of the change is notable in itself: Disney had already communicated the later date and then quietly corrected it on its official website. No reason for the shift has been given.

The turrets are already in transit

Confirmation of sorts appeared on the road on September 3, when the snowy turret pieces for Sleeping Beauty Castle were spotted on a flatbed truck near the park. These elements are traditionally installed in autumn, turning the castle into a winter centrepiece for the season. No installation date has been announced.

What returns

The programme itself is generous. Confirmed elements include:

  • "World of Color – Season of Light" at Disney California Adventure – back after sitting out 2025
  • "A Christmas Fantasy Parade" at Disneyland Park
  • the "Believe… in Holiday Magic" fireworks
  • the Haunted Mansion Holiday and "it's a small world" Holiday attraction overlays
  • the Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure
  • seasonal character dining

Mickey, Minnie and friends also get new outfits, which Disney describes as inspired by "the spirit of holiday travel and a wintery alpine gathering."

What is being cut

There is a real reduction too. "Holiday Fun With Santa & Friends" will not return, taking with it the music performances, storytime, sing-alongs, crafts and snacks that surrounded the Santa visit in recent years.

What remains is the Santa meet-and-greet itself – and it relocates, from the Fantasyland Theatre area to the Trolley Barn in Mickey's Toontown, near Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin. The logic is clear enough: it lets the Bluey show keep running at Fantasyland Theatre through the holidays.

Perspective

For guests the balance is mixed. The return of "Season of Light" is the bigger win – it was absent in 2025 and ranks among the season's genuine draws. The earlier start adds a week to the window, which matters for anyone with limited flexibility on dates.

Against that, cutting the Santa programme sits alongside other entertainment reductions at the resort this year. Families with younger children, precisely the audience that offering was built for, lose the most.

For travellers

The resort is currently promoting up to 20 percent off selected three-night stays for arrivals between October 11 and December 18, 2026. Anyone wanting the season without the crush will typically find the week after November 13 the quietest stretch of the holidays.

Three Weeks Out: Disneyland Paris Halloween Festival Starts September 26 – Into Shorter Evenings Halloween season at Disneyland Paris runs September 26 to November 1. Dr. Facilier is back, the Lucky Nugget Saloon becomes the "Unlucky Nugget", and Frontierland is once again the heart of it. Anyone booking now should factor in the park's new weekday closing time.
