About fifteen minutes was all it took. On the evening of October 23, 2026, a short but intense thunderstorm swept over Disneyland Park in Anaheim and left several areas underwater. The rain was not in the forecast for that Friday. It had rained earlier in the week, but nothing was predicted for the evening, so guests and Cast Members alike were caught out.

Frontierland as a wading pool

Frontierland took the worst of it. At the lower points, clogged drains could not keep up with the volume, and a pool formed that was ankle-deep in places. Guests retreated to the covered walkways near Pioneer Mercantile and the Shooting Exposition, while others stepped onto benches and planter edges to find dry ground. A Cast Member eventually waded in to clear a drain.

Fantasyland flooded too. The walkway linking Sleeping Beauty Castle to the Matterhorn stood underwater, with water visibly running across it. According to one guest, backed-up drains were the cause there as well.

Waterfalls over the seating areas

The images that spread afterwards came from the canopies over guest seating areas: they overflowed and briefly formed small waterfalls. That was documented near the Haunted Mansion and at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, among other spots.

What followed

The park stayed soaked for the rest of the evening and several outdoor attractions closed. Exactly which ones is not documented, nor is whether any shows were cancelled.
A note on sourcing is in order: the reporting rests on guest videos posted to Instagram. Disneyland Resort has issued no statement, and no rainfall totals are available. No injuries were reported.

The practical lesson for visitors stands: Southern California has a reputation for dependably dry Octobers, but dependable it is not. A folding rain poncho takes up almost no space in a backpack, and on the evening of October 23 it would have paid for itself.
